A Better Way To Enjoy Your Land
The countryside offers enormous potential, but knowing where to start can be daunting.
Should you keep chickens or sheep? How many animals can your land comfortably support? What fencing is required? How should paddocks be managed throughout the year? Which machinery do you need and which jobs are better outsourced?
We help answer these questions and many more.
Our role is to create a clear, practical roadmap that allows you to enjoy the benefits of rural living without costly mistakes, unnecessary stress or years of trial and error.
Whether you own two acres or twenty, our advice is grounded in real-world experience and a genuine understanding of what works.
A Wonderful Environment For Children
Few experiences are more valuable for children than growing up with a connection to nature.
Collecting eggs before breakfast. Feeding animals after school. Learning where food comes from. Understanding responsibility, patience and the rhythms of the seasons.
A well-managed smallholding can provide experiences and life lessons that are increasingly rare in modern life.
Many of our clients are families seeking exactly this balance: modern professional lives combined with a richer, more connected family experience in the countryside.
We help make that vision achievable
Experience You Can Rely On
What sets The Homestead Company apart is practical experience.
Our advice is not theoretical. It is based on more than two decades of hands-on involvement in the realities of rural living, animal husbandry, land management and smallholding operations.
We understand the opportunities, challenges and common pitfalls because we have lived them ourselves.
That experience allows us to provide advice that is realistic, independent and focused on helping you achieve the lifestyle you want.
Meet Hayley
For Hayley, country living is more than a lifestyle, it's a way of life that has shaped her from an early age.
Having grown up on a smallholding in the countryside, Hayley developed a lifelong passion for rural living through hunting, shooting, horses, livestock and poultry. Surrounded by animals, land and the rhythms of country life from a young age, she gained the practical knowledge and hands-on experience that only comes from living it day in, day out.
After a successful career in the city, Hayley made the decision to leave corporate life behind and return to the countryside to raise her family. Today, she balances family life with running her own thriving smallholding and helping others through The Homestead Company.
With over 20 years of practical smallholding experience, Hayley understands both the rewards and realities of owning land. Her smallholding is home to a variety of animals including goats, alpacas, peacocks, turkeys and guinea fowl, together with a productive poultry flock and an ever-evolving collection of countryside projects.
At the heart of the smallholding is a highly productive kitchen garden that supplies fresh fruit, vegetables and seasonal produce for Hayley's family of six and, more often than not, a good number of neighbours as well.
Through The Homestead Company, Hayley helps clients navigate the opportunities and challenges of rural life with confidence. Whether you're considering your first flock of chickens, wondering how best to manage a few acres, planning an orchard, introducing livestock, or simply looking to make more of your land, Hayley provides practical, honest advice based on real-world experience.
What makes The Homestead Company different is that everything we advise on is grounded in lived experience rather than theory. Hayley continues to manage her own smallholding every day and warmly welcomes prospective clients who would like to visit, see what's possible and gain a first-hand understanding of what creating a successful homestead can look like.
